The Story Behind The Journey

About A Golfer Abroad

An average golfer playing, reviewing and ranking golf courses one round at a time.

A Golfer Abroad is built around one simple idea: keep playing, keep travelling and keep discovering courses that are worth talking about.

I am not Tiger and neither are you. I'm a mid-handicap amateur who simply loves playing the game and seeing where the next round takes me.

From public courses and local favourites to hidden gems and courses that don't always get the attention they deserve, I want to find out what they are really like to play as an everyday golfer.

There are plenty of websites covering the famous courses everyone already knows about. I'm more interested in finding the ones you might not have heard of.

A Golfer Abroad documents those experiences through course reviews, photography, scores and rankings — with an emphasis on what the course is actually like for the average golfer.

A Golfer Abroad
"Because sometimes the best round isn't played on the most famous course. Sometimes it's the one you almost didn't know existed."

The setup will change. The golf won't.

As the journey continues, the equipment will inevitably evolve. This is what's currently making the trip from the first tee to the final green.

The Journey

From the first tee to the next destination

A Golfer Abroad is an ongoing golfing journey. There is always another course to discover, another tee time to book and another round to play.

Some courses will be spectacular. Some will be challenging. Some will be surprisingly good. And some probably won't live up to expectations.

The aim isn't to create a collection of perfect golf courses. It's to build an honest record of what it's like to play different courses as a mid-handicap amateur golfer. Whether it's a course close to home or somewhere much further afield, every round is an opportunity to discover somewhere new.

Explore The Courses
1

Find a course

Discover courses that are worth playing — from well-known public layouts to the hidden gems that don't always get the attention they deserve.

2

Play the round

Experience the course as an ordinary golfer would, taking in the layout, surroundings, challenge and everything that happens between the first tee and the final green.

3

Review the experience

I'll share what stood out, what didn't, how the course played and whether it delivered the kind of experience I'd want to have again.

4

Add it to the rankings

Over time, those scores build into a growing collection of courses — helping make sense of which places are worth adding to your own golfing plans.

The Mission

One golfer. More courses. Plenty of stories.

The goal of A Golfer Abroad is simple: keep playing golf and keep discovering different courses.

The public courses. The affordable courses. The local courses. The courses you stumble across while planning a trip. All scored across 5 categories into an overall score.

Because there's a huge world of golf outside the famous names. And I want to explore it.
